Tea History

Tea has more than 3000 years of history. Initially, tea was used as medication and food ingredient. In present times, tea has become a beverage. And in some counties, tea is used as health supplement or as a main daily fluid in-take. Therefore tea is the 2nd most popular beverage in the world.

The top 3 tea agriculture countries are, Kenya which produce 300,000 tons per year, India which produce 900,00 tons per year and the largest will be China which produce 1.7 million tons per year.

The Sage of Tea

Lu Yu <陆羽> was born in the year of 733 in Tianmen, Hubei. He was well respected as the Sage of Tea for his contribution to the Tea Culture.

 

From history, he was abandoned at the age of 3 and was adopted by a monk who was famous in the tea culture. Due to his enthusiasm towards tea, He spent whole of his life dwell on all aspect of tea. His Tea Classic is the first book covered from the very beginning of tea agriculture to different types of tea leaves processing. In his book, Lu Yu also stated using different types of water and equipment for different types of tea brewing technique, and developed the art of teas.
